The Simple Life, the once-popular reality TV show starring millionaire ingenues Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, is going off the air after five seasons due to low ratings, industry press reported today.

Another network could still pick up the show from the E! network, according to the Hollywood Reporter, though none has come forward.

The series placed the 26-year-old Hilton, heir to part of the Hilton Hotel chain fortune, and the 25-year-old Richie, daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, in situations the celebrity princesses would likely never encounter.

In past episodes the overpampered waifs - known for their glamorous Hollywood party life - milked farm cows, worked at a fast-food outlet and got jobs as mechanics.

The show’s first season in 2003 on the Fox network was a big hit - and coincided with a steamy Hilton sex video posted on the internet by a former boyfriend.

After months of rumors, Nicole Richie confirmed Tuesday that she is pregnant. “Yes I am. We are,” Richie told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer for an interview to be aired this week. “I’m almost four months.” Richie’s boyfriend, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, is the father, she told ABC, which issued a news release about the interview.

The 25-year-old star of “The Simple Life” and on-again pal of Paris Hilton also talked with Sawyer about her guilty plea last week to driving under the influence and the resulting four-day jail sentence.

Nicole Richie has certainly learnt that prevention is better than cure, and has now banned beau Joel Madden from posing for pics with other pretty girls.

Richie, who is well aware how fast rumours can spread in tinsel town, has put her man on a short leash, and the news comes from Madden himself.

Madden was at the hotspot Village Pourhouse on Third Avenue celebrating its first anniversary when a party promoter asked him to pose with a cute woman.
